Bringing together academics, practitioners, and law students with leaders from business, government and non-governmental organizations...- Executive in Residence, University of Ottawa Speakers included: Guy Laflamme (Introductory Keynote), Melissa Powell, and Dr. Keith MartinThe conference was a great success and we hope the discussion of Corporate Social Responsibility continues. Participants and interested parties can receive a copy of the conference report: Talk and Action around CSR. Actionable Ideas: A discourse on corporate social responsibility brought together leading academic, business, government, and civil society leaders to discuss the progress of the CSR Roundtables and the challenges of putting CSR rhetoric into action. The discussion ranged broadly across the nature of CSR standards, CSR processes, CSR and the environment, CSR and financial institutions and CSR and the balance of voluntary and mandatory CSR standards. Yes, it was a busy day. The consensus of the conference was that voluntary standards are a step towards more enforceable mandatory standards and that all stakeholders must be engaged in the creation of standards, whether they are powerful TNCs, local NGOs or Aboriginal communities. There were between 100 and 150 participants, many of which enjoyed the keynote speech of Penny Collenette and a dinner at the National Art Centre. Actionable Ideas was made possible because of the generous support of our sponsors. The conference was held at the University of Ottawa and organized by a coalition of student groups, which made up the Common and Civil Law Working Group on Corporate Social Responsibility. Further questions or requests may be addressed to email and phone. Full Conference Report is on the way The Recommendations of the Roundtables have been released.
Thank You to our Speakers , Sponsors , and Participants.
